Kevin Collard's Wedding

Kevin married the former Beth Koehler were married on September 30, 2007 at "The Vineyard" in Appleton. After a honeymoon in Phoenix, AZ, they now reside in Meadow Creek subdivision, which is just south of Freedom. Congratulations, Kevin & Beth!

Unfortunately, Patti won't be attending the reunion because her dauther Katie's wedding reception and family visiting will conflict. Katie was married in Cancun on February 11th, 2009. Katie is 28. This picture is of them just minutes before the ceremony. Katie and her husband, Chad Jacobs, had been dating for nine year, so Patti is thrilled the event finally occurred.

Cindi Emmel is now Cindi Hereth! Cindi and her husband, Edward, from Glenelg, Maryland were married October 17th, 2008. Cindi and her husband plan to attend this year's reunion! Congratulations, Cindi!!!! And, we are so excited we will see you this year!

News from the Bahamas & (Joyce) Marie Lambden Thompson

Thanks to (Joyce) Marie for this great blog addition.

Marie moved to the Bahamas 21 years ago. She met her handsome husband, Bobby, (pictured with Marie) and they have been together for 20 years - soon to celebrate their 17th anniversary. Joyce met Bobby and they really had a connection, she ended up staying in the Bahamas.

Her business came about out of necessity. She originally was doing T-shirt designs for a local company, one by one, her boss's kids came home from college and she eventually lost her job. She really had a hard time finding another job she liked, so she invented her own. She says she thinks we call this American ingenuity. She sat down and thought about it. She was an artist who liked toys and she knew know how to sew. So she sat down and designed a line of toys, made samples and hit the road. She has been a toy designer for 19 years now. Her toy company is called Huggable Art. You can see a sample of it on this website: http://www.ting-n-ting.com/small.htm and scroll down to see her "Huggable Art". She still loves her job. She has a home workshop, so she works with her dog, Munchkin, under her work table. Her retired husband likes the fact she can stop and play anytime. Last year, she "upgraded" her U.S. citizenship,. Her sister and she applied and were accepted into their grandfather's tribe. She is now a tribal member of Brothertown Indian Nation. Right now she is a permanent resident of the Bahamas, which gives her the right to live and work there, but she didn't give up her U.S. citizenship.

Aren't the pictures just great? I think her life in the Bahamas must agree with her; she looks awesome! Thanks so much for sending them, Marie! Can we have our next reunion down in the Bahamas with you??

Sorry about the bad shot here Pam! This was a funny story. I went by the entrance to make a phone call and thought Pam Messerschmidt McKeefrey was coming to join us. Hi Cathy,Unfortunately I will not be able to attend. We are arriving back from a European vacation the night before. Mary Seering Bodmer did ask if I would join her and come along. We would have great fun but the timing will not allow. I will hope and plan for the next one! My husband has been recently been diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. We are trying to adjust to this and my doctors that I work for are sending the two of us to Europe to fulfill a dream of Steve's. He has always wanted to go to Germany but would not take the time or spend the money(?)...a true achiever in the banking industry. Life is so short and I have never reflected that school of thought. I have been to Europe twice before :) so, the absolute love of my life will slowly slip away before my very eyes...I can hardly bear it. Please pray for us as we face these uncertain days ahead. He is having difficulty walking and with upper body muscle function as well as speech/swallow involvement. Please pass along that once again, the reminders of how short and truly special life is needs to be noticed and honored. Love life each and every day for tomorrow may never come and it may come with incredible challenges. We continue to smile and be so thankful for the blessings that we have enjoyed and continue to experience. Have fun and give my greetings to all. Wendy

We were lucky enough to have Bob meet up with us several years back. He sent me a picture taken in Moscow I thought I'd share. Bob will be in Moscow through the end of the month. He is really a fun guy!

I am once again working on the road. This time in Moscow, Russia. Unfortunately I will not be attending this drink up.... er... event. The last time I saw this crew I enjoyed seeing my old friends & wish I could attend more! With this, I should be passing through possibly late July or early August. I can let you know when the dates are locked in & perhaps there will be another event during that time. My wife is determined to buy a home near Baileys Harbour. If that is the case I would have a destination to be near by more often.

Here's my "line" telling you how I'm doing: Great! My wife, 3-year-old son and I live in Galesburg, Illinois. My full-time work is in Rock Island, IL, about an hour away, as a hospital chaplain, and my part-time work is as a parish pastor about 20 minutes away. My three older kids are 27 (Dave), 25 (Pete) and 21 (Jean). Dave is single, living and working near Rock Island, Pete is married, living and working in Bloomington, IL, and Jean is a junior at ISU in Normal, IL. In my spare time, I play with my 3-year-old and our puppy, a malti-zu (designer dog: a maltese/shi tzu), and I play music: guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle.

We always have a terrific time when we get together, but this one was really outstanding. And on top of that the Packers beat the Lions!

I think if my count is correct we had 21 classmates show up. I think that is pretty darn great. Plus, we had some other East High friends show up also.

An email from Eileen about Mark's funeral

Well, we had Mark's funeral on Monday. It was really nice. Fort Rosecrans sits atop Point Loma, with the Pacific on one side, and San Diego Bay on the other. There was a huge turnout and I saw folks I hadn't seen in 15 years. It really drives home how fast time goes by and how much you miss when you lose contact. Mark was buried with full military honors. We picked up all the shells from his 21 gun salute and kept them. After the salute there was a lone bugle playing taps in the distance. Lots of tears. After wards we all gathered at Mark and JoAnne's home. There was a slide show playing and there was a picture of Mark and Jon Destiche at the San Diego Zoo. They were about 20 years old and such baby faces! I finally stopped crying after about 4 shots of something. Mark would have been so proud of me. I believe I have made plans to go on a llama trip with Mark's niece Vicki and her family, then on to Washington state with my sister-in-law and her husband. Then I made Marks niece, Suzy, my honorary Sister-in-law (she used to date my brother Scott). Mark's brothers reassured me they love me after much prodding and I told everyone else they better start dropping by to visit me. There was some toast that went - ziggy ziggy oy oy oy - or something like that, followed by shots of whatever was sitting on the bar. Oh, my stomach is turning just thinking about it. It will be a while before I indulge again - at least a week or two. We saved some of Marks ashes and plan to head out to the desert to send him up in some illegal fireworks we have collected. Damn. Feb. 22, 1956-March 28, 2007
Mark Joseph Wiltzius, 51, of San Diego died March 28. He was born in Green Bay, Wis., and was a director of patient-care services at a VA hospital. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnne Wiltzius; and brothers, John Wiltzius and Jim Wiltzius.
Services: 2 p.m. tomorrow, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Cabrillo Memorial Drive, Point Loma.
Inurnment: Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
Arrangements: Goodbody Mortuary.

Mark's memorial service arrangements

I was hoping to be able to post an obituary for Mark Wiltzius for you, but I've not been able to locate one. I do know this information about services for him. The family will have a memorial service for Mark on Monday, April 9th, at 2 p.m. at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, P.O. Box 6237, San Diego, CA 92166. Mark Wiltzius Update

Hi All,

Just a quick update on Mark. He is at home, but not doing too well at this time. The radiation treatments are taking it all out of him, and at this time is virtually bed ridden. Jim and John (brothers) are flying back out there today, and will be there for at least 2 weeks. He has stopped eating again, but they are bringing good Wisconsin cheese and sausage to him, so hopefully he'll at least eat some of that. In the meantime, Joanne has been giving him his meds with ensure, so at least he's getting some nourishment.

They have stopped the radiation. We're all praying that maybe he'll be able to regain some of his strength so at least he can have some enjoyment during this hard, hard time.

Thanks for all your prayers! I'll update you if anything changes!

I have wanted to set up a blog page so everyone can East High information when they want. I'm not quite sure how this all will work yet, but hopefully it will be worthwhile. P.S. I saw that East High teacher Marcella Hoeffs passed away this week. I was surprised to see she was still alive. When we were younger she seemed so much older, but she was 82, not older like I had imagined. Thinking of her screaming at Bob Hanrahan brought back some funny memories of high school for Jane and me.
